FOR THE EARTH

NOT ONLY THE SEA

The care and protection of the environment have always been part of our mission.

We love the environment and would like to continue to respect it.

Not only the sea needs our help.

TRANSPORT E AIR POLLUTION

We are aware that the quality of our brand also depends on an efficient and economical transport system. At the same time, however, we have become aware of the impact they can have on the environment and on human health. Shipping pollution causes carbon emissions into the atmosphere, causing several climate issues.

Buying online also costs money in terms of environmental impact. Although e-commerce still represents only 20% of total purchases, in the wealthiest countries, the harmful gases emitted by transport - including deliveries and returns - pollute our habitat.

The problem lies above all in the individual delivery, since the rest of the journey of the goods, from production to storage, takes place in large volumes. While the last mile is retail. This involves half-empty means of transport that travel and in 10% of cases return back to the sender, invalidating the first transport and thus doubling emissions.

The time has come to act on this front as well.

We have therefore decided to protect large forests, essential resources for storing CO2. One hectare of forest is capable of filtering up to 50 tons of soot and dust from the air, generates around 100,000 cubic meters of new groundwater, releases 15-30 tons of oxygen per year, and binds 10.6 tons of CO2.

As such, Peninsula is working closely with our reforestation partner to rebuild the mangrove population along the West Coast estuaries. Mangroves have an enormous capacity to absorb carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, trapping them in the soil for millennia. They are among the world's most carbon-rich tropical forests, hence their critical importance in mitigating the effects of climate change.

Studies also show that mangroves “retain carbon two to four times faster than mature tropical forests and contain the highest carbon density of all terrestrial ecosystems” (Fatoyinbo et al, 2017).

To make this project real, we have become partners of the Green Future Project, which is actively engaged in "reconstructing" the mangrove plantations in Madagascar and Indonesia.

For every tree that is planted, over 308kg of CO2 is removed from the atmosphere.

Thanks to this partnership we are increasingly becoming a "carbon neutral" brand, planting more than a thousand trees a year and thus offsetting more than 40 tons of CO2.
